Web site MUST be usable, surely that is the single most important thing. If a site isn't usable it really isn't much use to anyone.

Dr Jakob Neilsen is the owner of useit.com, and that's a great place to learn about the do's and don't of web design.

Another great site is the World Wide Web Consortium's website at w3.org. With Tim Berner's Lee (the inventor of the world wide web) as the director, this organisation has just about as much importance on the web as any in the world.
